Evaluation of Staf-Sistem 18-R for identification of staphylococcal clinical isolates to the species level.

چکیده
The accuracy and efficiency of Staf-Sistem 18-R (Liofilchem s.r.l., Roseto degli Abruzzi, Teramo, Italy) were compared with those of conventional biochemical methods to identify 523 strains belonging to 16 different human Staphylococcus species. Overall, 491 strains (93.9%) were correctly identified (percentage of identification, > or = 90.0), with 28 (5.4%) requiring supplementary tests for complete identification. For 14 isolates (2.8%), the strains did not correspond to any key in the codebook and could not be identified by the manufacturer's computer service. Only 18 isolates (3.4%) were misidentified. The system is simple to use, is easy to handle, gives highly reproducible results, and is inexpensive. With the inclusion of more discriminating tests and adjustment in supplementary code numbers for some species, such as Staphylococcus lugdunensis and Staphylococcus schleiferi, Staf-Sistem 18-R is a suitable alternative for identification of human coagulase-positive and coagulase-negative Staphylococcus species in microbiological laboratories.

Candidiasis in Pediatrics; Identification and In vitro Antifungal Susceptibility of the Clinical Isolates
Background Candida species are normal microflora of oral cavity, vagina, and gastrointestinal tract. They are the third most prevalent cause of pediatric health care–associated bloodstream fungal infection. This study aimed to provide an epidemiological feature of candidiasis and also presents an antifungal susceptibility profile of clinical Candida iso...
متن کاملSPECIES IDENTIFICATION AND INV ESTIGATION OF VANCOMYCIN AND HIGH-LEVEL AMINOGLYCOSIDE AMONG CLINICAL ISOLATES OF ENTEROCOCCAL STRAINS
A study was performed to determine the species and antimicrobial susceptibility of 100 enterococcus strains from various clinical specimens as etiological agents at the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, Istanbul University, Medical Faculty Hospital. Out of 100 enterococcal isolates, 86 were identified as E. faecalis, 11 as E. faecium, 1 as E. avium and 2 as E. raffinosus. By the disk diff...
متن کاملMolecular identification and antifungal susceptibility of Candida albicans isolated from Vulvovaginitis Candidiasis
Vulvovaginal candidiasis is caused by the increasing number of Candida species as normal flora in the vagina. To assess the transmission rout as well as to determine the suitable antifungal drugs for treatment, the exact identification of Candida species is crucial. Therefore, earlier detection of infection allows quick initiation of antifungal therapy with a greater probability for improved su...
متن کاملMolecular Identification and Conventional Susceptibility Testing of Iranian Clinical Mycobacterium fortuitum Isolates
Objective(s) Rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM) are capable of producing diseases in humans. Since mycobacteria vary in their susceptibility, precise identification is critical for adoption of correct drug therapy. The main aim of this study was molecular identification and evaluation of antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of Iranian clinically isolated Myocbacterium fortuitum. Materials and...
متن کاملIdentification of Nontuberculous Mycobacteria Species Isolated from Water Samples Using Phenotypic and Molecular Methods and Determination of their Antibiotic Resistance Patterns by E- Test Method, in Isfahan, Iran
Introduction Many studies have shown epidemiological links between strains isolated in tap water, and those isolated from patients. Molecular methods linked to PCR are more reliable and faster for identification of non- tuberculous mycobacteria(NTM). In this study molecular methods were used for identification and typing of NTM. Materials and Methods Five hundred ml of 85 water ...
